This study was planned to investigate the impact of piece rate on the experience of work-related injury in employees. Piece rate has been introduced and generalized because that it make higher productivity and wage. In spite of the positive effect on business and earning of employees, unanticipated effect may be generated such as higher probability of work-related injury experience. Korean Working Conditions Survey in 2011 done by Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute was used with hierarchical logistic regression analysis. Four models were created with socio-demographic and occupational characteristics, job characteristics, task type, the exposure to hazards, and payment methods as independent variables. The result shows that piece rate has the positive effect on the experience of work-related injury. Especially piece rate workers suffer 1.32 times of probability of work-related injury more than non piece rate workers. This study has some limitations due to cross sectional survey data and survey contents. The mechanism and causal modelling may be investigated in future studies.
